The next thing I did was enter that first spec house in the Fall Parade of Homes. Then I started getting involved in the HBA and that opened me up to the NAHB and the NCHBA. From there the educational resources, networking, sharing experiences, asking questions, leadership, being connected and so on were invaluable to growing and prospering in my home building business.

Growing our business by networking and making new connections has been a huge positive for our company as a whole. Plus being able to give back to the community through Habitat for Humanity Programs and Career Education for students is an added incentive for Service Learning. My membership with the Home Builders Association of Winston-Salem is one that I hold most special. Not only is the home building industry noble, but the members who support it and this association are exceptional. My business has grown tremendously and the relationships I have built are long-lasting. The best thing I ever did for my business was to join the Home Builders Association of Winston-Salem. I just started building one spec house and started asking people how do I get my word out?
The council consists of young professionals who are 45 years and younger that are dedicated to the development and growth of professional careers and GSABA involvement thus providing opportunities to one another. The YPLC includes anyone involved in any industry that partners with the Builder’s Association. I have been blessed to hold positions on the Board of Directors, Executive Board of Directors, and even President of a local HBA in the past so I have seen the inner workings of the organization up close and personally. Our local HBAs do a great job of utilizing membership dues to hire incredible staff members, hold events that promote our industry, and champion causes such as the Construction Careers Initiative.
The ASAQS provides an environment in which professionals may learn, grow and work together to advance the techniques and science of quantity surveying. From its earliest beginnings, the ASAQS has grown to include quantity surveying professionals from every area of the construction industry, from private practice, government and quasi-government to construction companies.
